Zella Hall by Dyke Shaw

Zella with the love of her life,  Bob Hall.

Zella Hall with future President Ronald Reagan.

Zella Hall aka “Nan” was my grandmother and very much a part of my life for 52 years. There is not much I can say about Nan without equally remembering and speaking about her husband Bob as they were truly a team and had a partnership that was rivaled by none. Together they complimented each other, fed off each other and shared their wisdom and insight with their daughter foremost, her eventual husband and onto their grandkids, my sister and myself. When I remember my grandfather and Nan I do not think about the exterior but more about the resilience that each had and how they each strived for a better life for themselves, their daughter, grandkids and beyond and they only got there due to accepting challenges and moving forward – all the while showing respect and compassion to others. When my grandfather passed away in 1976 Nan became an even stronger person as now she independently had to move forward without her partner. She continued to grow and prosper and her life became a 24/7 whirlwind of activity yet she always found time for her family, now which also included great grandkids all of which will always have a lasting impression of her and who “Nan” really was. Others live to 100 but not many can live to 100 with a zest for life for the majority of those years and have such a special partner to share so much of that life with. Here’s to Nan – who, at 90, could hit a golf ball straighter than anyone else while refusing to take a golf cart!
