Christine Ann Zielinski – Lori Hawkins

Lori and Delaney Hawkins, daughter and grand daughter of Christine Ann Zielinski

“My mother fought for those who had no voice: neglected children, students with special needs, families newly immigrated to this country. From my mother, I learned that nothing is impossible. She taught me that we are only limited by our attitude or our imagination or our drive. She also taught me to take care of family, to empower the helpless, to take a stand and to live it.

My mother is Christine Ann Zielinski. She was struck with Frontal Temporal Dementia in her mid-fifties, just as she was beginning her well-earned retirement, embracing the new joy of becoming a grandparent, and beginning to live life for herself.

I pledge to bring her legacy to my children. Love life, embrace all possibilities, and never give in to what might stand in your way. We now speak for her, since her voice as failed her. Dementia took away too much from her. From us. However, through her illness, she taught my children to take care of family by loving and being present, to empower the helpless with kindness and the courage to face the face of dementia. I will take a stand and live it by promising that her illness and all she has lost will not be in vain.”
